You can marg my words… it’s happy hour! Today, we are putting Boulder County margaritas under the limelight. Read on for our top picks!
Waterloo | Blood Orange Margarita
Starting off with a Louisville staple — Waterloo! Waterloo is a fan favorite for their Texas-inspired menu and rooftop patio, but don’t sleep on their margaritas. From the classic Waterloo Marg to Blueberry-Habanero, Smoked Cherry, and Cactus Smoke, you’ll have plenty of options at 5 pm (or earlier – no judgement).
Our pick is the Blood Orange Margarita. Made with Natalie’s Organic Blood Orange Juice, Exotico Blanco 100% Agave Tequila, Leopolds Orange Liqueur, lime juice, and agave nectar, you can’t go wrong with this tart and tangy take on the traditional margarita.
Waterloo is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm, with their happy hour between 3 and 6 pm!
Pica’s Mexican Taqueria | House Margarita
This article wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Pica’s. With fresh lemon, lime, orange juice, tequila and triple sec on the rocks, their house margarita is a classic (and only $6 during happy hour)!
Pica’s has locations in Boulder and Louisville and is open from 11 am to 8 pm daily, with happy hour from 3:30 to 6 pm! They were even featured on Guy Fierri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, so you’ll want to order their Mexican food with a SoCal influence.
Centro Mexican Kitchen | Spicy Passion Fruit Marg
If you like sampling different flavors of margaritas (and Mexican food), Centro Mexican Kitchen may be the spot for you. With the option for a glass or pitcher for their margs, they have flavors ranging from melon, smoky mezcal, jalapeño & basil, and their classic centro coin. Our go-to is the Spicy Passion Fruit Marg, with its unique blend of sweet, salty, and spicy; pepper infused 100% blue weber agave tequila, passion fruit puree, orange liqueur, lime, and agave.
Centro is located right on Pearl Street and is open until 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 10pm Friday and Saturday. You can make a reservation at the bottom of the article or by calling (303) 442-7771.
Teocalli Cocina | Aro De Fuego
Teocalli Cocina is home to (arguably) the best margaritas in Lafayette, if not all of Boulder County. La Casa Margarita is their go-to, especially for happy hour, but our favorite is the Aro de Fuego. While some spicy margaritas are all spice and no flavor, the Aro de Fuego is the perfect combination of sweet, citrus, and heat. And don’t get us started on that chile lime rim!
The kitchen is also 100% gluten free if that’s something you need to look out for. Teocalli has reservations available on OpenTable at the bottom of the article! Their happy hour lasts between 3 to 5 pm daily.
Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant | The Classic Rio Marg
Home to Boulder Weekly’s #1 Margarita, Rio Grande has more than just great drinks. With the second-best rated Mexican food and an awesome rooftop patio, the Rio is a great place to gather this summer.
Their classic Rio marg is available on the rocks or frozen and in four flavors: classic, mango, strawberry or manberry. Their happy hour lasts Monday through Friday, 3-6 pm and you can make reservations directly on their website here.
McDevitt Taco Supply | The Cucumber Margarita
Open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, McDevitt Taco Supply offers their classic McDevitt Margarita with locally made orange liqueur, along with cucumber, hibiscus, or green chile jalapeño margs. Our favorite is the Cucumber Margarita, with its crisp and refreshing flavor.
McDevitt aims to partner with local businesses as much as possible, so you know you’ll be supporting local Colorado businesses, farmers, and artisans. They are currently open for carryout, grab-and-go, and outdoor dining.
Verde | Coin-Style Margarita
Last on our list (but it definitely stacks up to the rest!) is the Coin-Style Margarita from Verde. This marg sets the standard for coin-style and is perfectly easy-drinking, so you might want to anticipate your second round. Their other margs are great too including the House, Habanero Margarita, Blood Orange Mezcalrita, or their updating Seasonal Fruit Margarita. You can enjoy their margaritas and Sonoran-style food at either of their Boulder or Louisville locations or pick them up curbside.
We hope you enjoy these margs as much as we do. If we’ve left one of your favorites off of this list, let us know! Don’t forget that when life gives you limes, you can make margaritas 🍹
