What Exactly Is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of alternative medicine with roots in ancient Japanese healing. It falls under the umbrella of holistic healing, which is a type of healing that considers the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. In Japanese, “Reiki” is a compound word with “rei” meaning “spirit” and “ki” meaning “energy.”
By placing their hands lightly on or above you, a practitioner — often called a “Reiki master” — acts as a channel for healing energy. This energy is commonly referred to as “life force energy.”
